Manchester United have announced the signing of Karim Cassim from cross-town rivals Manchester City.

Statement

United have released a statement which reads, “Manchester United have agreed the signing of exciting youngster Karim Cassim.”

“The England youth international has joined after leaving Manchester City.”

“The 17-year-old was part of the City side that won the FA Youth Cup last season. On the international front, the central midfielder has been capped up to England’s Under-17s.”

“Everyone at the club would like to welcome Karim to United and we wish him the very best of luck.”

Major coup

Since INEOS chairman Sir Jim Ratcliffe assumed operational control of United in February 2024, the club has placed greater emphasis on signing youngsters who can be nurtured to potentially become world-class.

A few weeks ago, the club secured the signings of David Eze, also from City, and Manuel Appiah Boakye from Leicester City.

During the summer window, United also brought in Tynan Thompson from Tottenham Hotspur.

According to The Athletic, United had agreed terms of a deal for Cassim, but were awaiting Premier League ratification. This has now arrived.

The newspaper reveals that Cassim is rated highly at United and there is genuine hope that he can break into the first team.

It is understood that his signing is reflective of the club’s ambitions at youth level.

The Athletic add, “In addition to Cassim, United are closing in on announcing the signings of 16-year-old defensive midfielder David Eze, also from City, and winger Isaac Konde, 16, from Liverpool.”

“Both are being brought to Carrington with a view to senior progression in time.”

Cassim’s addition comes at a time when United are fighting tooth and nail to keep JJ Gabriel, who shocked everyone by tabling an official request to leave with immediate effect.
