A return to Ajax for Manchester United midfielder Christian Eriksen is reportedly on the cards, as he eyes a move that will set him on a coaching path.
Eriksen is expected to leave United this summer when his contract expires. He joined the club three seasons ago from Brentford as a free agent.
United are not expected to offer him fresh terms and he will be available on the market. He is certainly not short of suitors, with some clubs seemingly still of the belief that they could do with his skill set and vast experience.
A previous report covered by The Peoples Person relayed that Thomas Frank is still an admirer of Eriksen and would be keen on taking him back to the Gtech Community Stadium.
The Denmark international has also been linked to Galatasaray, FC Midtjylland and Major League Soccer outfits.
He has also been mentioned to be on Ajax’s radar as the summer window approaches. Now, The Times reveal that the Johan Cruyff Arena is indeed a possible transfer destination for Eriksen.
In a surprise twist, the newspaper adds that Eriksen wants his next move to align with his ambition of kickstarting a career in coaching.
It’s understood that in addition to Eriksen, Ajax are also interested in two other former stars – Daley Blind and Dusan Tadic, who are currently at Girona and Fenerbahce respectively.
The Times note, “Eriksen, who spent five years at Ajax and came through their academy before joining Tottenham, wants to go to a club that would give him a pathway into coaching.”
“Eriksen, who has made over 600 professional appearances and has 142 Denmark caps, started his coaching badges last summer.”
The 33-year-old has made 34 appearances across all competitions for United this term. He has managed four goals and five assists in that period.
Meanwhile, the Red Devils are back in action on Friday when they go away to Stamford Bridge to face Chelsea.
