Manchester United captain Maya Le Tissier has won a prestigious award for her recent contributions to the club.
United enjoyed a promising start to the 2025/26 season, putting together a fine run of performances and results in the Women’s Super League.
It looked like the Red Devils would challenge the likes of Chelsea and Manchester City for the title but the club’s form eventually dipped and they endured a tough time towards the end, finishing fourth and outside the Champions League places.
Marc Skinner’s side also lost the League Cup final to Chelsea.
A largely similar narrative unfolded in the Champions League. United began promisingly and embarked on a fairytale run, only to be unceremoniously dumped out of the competition at the quarter-final stage at the hands of Bayern Munich.
The Peoples Person covered a report which stated that United will review Skinner’s position as head coach in due time. But there were also some positives, including Le Tissier.
The United captain played every single minute in the WSL, showing herself to be reliably solid at the heart of the defence.
United have confirmed that she has won the club’s Player of the Month award for May.
United reveal that the England international garnered 4,000 votes from supporters.
She successfully warded off stiff competition from two of her teammates: Melvine Malard and Lea Schuller. This is the second time Le Tissier has won it, having also claimed it in March.
United did not register a win in May. The Reds played out a 1-1 draw with Brighton & Hove Albion before they were beaten 1-0 by Chelsea in their final game of the campaign.
United write about Le Tissier, “It’s a remarkable feat that underlines her consistency, professionalism and quality, which are clearly appreciated by supporters, as she ends this campaign – the busiest in our women’s team’s eight-year history – with another award.”
Earlier this month, the 24-year-old was included in the Women’s Super League Team of the Season for the second year in a row.
