Argentina cruised to a comfortable 3-0 win over Chile in their World Cup qualifier last night.

Manchester United centre-back Lisandro Martinez started on the left side of the back three and delivered a fantastic performance.

The 26-year-old had 67 touches and completed 96 percent of his passes. He also won all of his ground and aerial duels (6/6).

Martinez cleared his lines on four occasions, losing possession on just three occasions. He completed 100% of his long balls.

The display should provide the centre-back with plenty of confidence going forward.

He has not had the best start to the campaign at United. Against Liverpool, Martinez was dribbled past twice and made an error, which led to a shot.

The Argentine had an injury-plagued 2023/24 season with the Red Devils. He managed just 900 minutes from 14 appearances in all competitions.

However, he was able to stay unscathed for Argentina en route to their Copa America success and appears to have got over his injury troubles.

United return to Premier League action after the international break against Southampton. It will be an early Saturday kick-off on the south coast.

Martinez will only travel to Manchester in the early hours of Wednesday, but manager Erik ten Hag will no doubt include him in the starting XI for the encounter.

The Red Devils face a must-win situation, having already dropped six points from the opening three games. They are already four points adrift of the top four.
