A number of former and present Manchester United stars expressed their support for Rasmus Hojlund after his dream start to life at Napoli.
Hojlund joined Napoli during the closing stages of the summer transfer window, after it became crystal clear that he no longer had a future at United.
He struggled to consistently come up with the goods since his big-money move from Atalanta in 2023. Last term, he managed just four goals in 32 Premier League appearances.
The Red Devils’ signing of Benjamin Sesko all but confirmed that Hojlund’s time at Old Trafford had come to an early end.
United and Napoli struck a loan agreement for Napoli, which is set to become permanent if the Partenopei qualify for the Champions League. The loan obligation is worth around €44m. Napoli also paid United a €6m loan fee to get the transfer over the line.
Hojlund marked his debut in perfect fashion, netting his first goal for the Partenopei as they cruised to a 3-1 victory over Fiorentina.
After the final whistle, Antonio Conte hailed Hojlund’s immense potential and the huge impact he can bring to Napoli
It seems that many past and present United players share the same opinion as Conte, going by their reaction to Hojlund’s Napoli goal.
Hojlund took to Instagram and posted images of himself celebrating his first strike for Napoli.
He captioned the pictures with the eight-word message, “First day at the new job didn’t disappoint.”
Several United players interacted with the post. Harry Maguire responded, “Love it mate.” Antony, who sealed a permanent move to Real Betis, replied with clapping hands.
Other members of Ruben Amorim’s squad liked the post including Bruno Fernandes, Ayden Heaven, Joshua Zirkee, Diogo Dalot, Leny Yoro, Kobbie Mainoo, Matthijs de Ligt, Patrick Dorgu, Matheus Cunha and Bryan Mbeumo.
Past stars who took notice of the images include Christian Eriksen and Sofyan Amrabat.
Hojlund returns to Manchester on Thursday when Napoli take on Manchester City in the Champions League.
