Manchester United are monitoring Brighton midfielder Carlos Baleba along with Premier League rivals, Liverpool and Arsenal.

The Red Devil’s midfield has served up some nightmare viewing for fans of the club in this campaign.

The fact 19th placed Burnley were able to enjoy so much possession in the second half of their match at Old Trafford highlights the debilitating problems facing the club at the moment.

Erik ten Hag’s men have also struggled desperately to defend transitions all season and one of the key characteristics of their play lately is to leave huge gaps between the defence and the midfield.

With several underperforming players in this department, such as Casemiro, Christian Eriksen and Sofyan Amrabat, it is highly likely that United will aim to bring in at least one midfielder to strengthen their hand in this key position.

Players such as Frenkie de Jong, Andre and Amadou Onana have all been linked to the club. However, CaughtOffside claim that, “Arsenal, Liverpool and Manchester United are all showing an interest in talented young Brighton midfielder Carlos Baleba ahead of the summer transfer window”.

Sources also claim that Brighton could be “ready to listen to offers of around £55million” for the talented 20 year old.

Baleba was signed in the summer to replace Moises Caicedo and has established himself as an important member of the Roberto De Zerbi’s team, making 33 appearances in all competitions.

This is not the first time the Red Devils have been linked to the player as it was thought last June that United may be willing to spend €30 million to bring the wonderkid to England.

Baleba’s “stamina, technical ability, and his progressiveness” all stand out and “he likes to press and nick the ball off opponents and progress the ball that way”. He has also been described as “a perfect role player that would add balance to some midfields”.

To say United need a player of this ilk is quite an understatement.

Furthermore, INEOS have made it quite public that they desire a change in transfer policy and want to attract the next stars instead of wasting money pursuing ready-made players. The 20-year-old Brighton starlet, once more, fits this profile perfectly.
