Manchester United are set to reward teenage sensation Bendito Mantato with a new four-year contract, according to journalist Fabrizio Romano.
The new deal is expected to be ratified over the next couple of days and will keep the highly rated youngster at Old Trafford until 2029.
The 17-year-old forward has been in fine form for United’s academy this season, bagging seven goals and one assist in 13 appearances across all competitions.
He has taken the Under-18s Premier League by storm, netting six times in 10 games, also proved his mettle for the U21s, bagging a goal and an assist against West Bromwich Albion’s youth side.
United’s technical director Jason Wilcox played a key role in getting the deal done and head coach Ruben Amorim is a huge fan of the impressive teenager.
Mantato’s playing style has drawn comparisons to Arsenal and England star Bukayo Saka. Like Saka, he initially played as an attacking left-back before he was deployed in a more advanced role.
He can play on either flank, but he has been predominantly deployed as a right winger for the youth side.
Amorim sees him as a future option in the right-wing back position, which currently lacks decisive options.
First-choice right wing-back Diogo Dalot has struggled to provide attacking quality, while Noussair Mazraoui has been more comfortable on the right side of Amorim’s back three.
Amad Diallo and Antony have both been deployed in that position, but the former has been ruled out for the rest of the season, while the Brazilian was shipped off to Real Betis on loan in January.
United had set their sights on Sporting CP forward Geovany Quenda, who was Amorim’s first choice signing for the right-wing-back position in the summer.
However, the Red Devils were beaten to the punch by Chelsea, who expect the talented forward to join in 2026.
Mantato is unlikely to break into the first team this season unless there’s an injury crisis, but there is growing optimism that he could be in and around the senior squad next term.
