Manchester United could miss out on Bournemouth midfielder Alex Scott.
United are planning a midfield overhaul this summer, and Scott is one of several players who have been linked with a move to Old Trafford.
The 22-year-old has been a revelation for the Cherries this season, playing a massive role in the club’s push for European football.
His breakout campaign has caught the eye, with United among several clubs closely monitoring his situation.
United already have Nottingham Forest’s Elliot Anderson, Brighton & Hove Albion’s Carlos Baleba, and Atalanta’s Ederson on their summer wishlist.
However, Scott could be a cost-effective addition for the Red Devils, who are also looking to strengthen other areas of their squad ahead of a return to the Champions League.
Bournemouth are aware of the growing interest in Scott, who is also linked with a move to Chelsea.
But they’ve already started making plans to tie him down to a new long-term contract. Scott’s current deal with the Cherries runs out in 2028, so they’re still in a strong negotiating position.
However, they’re not leaving anything to chance, especially with United lurking. They believe a new deal with improved wages will be enough to keep interested clubs at bay.
Scott has been backed to make Thomas Tuchel’s England World Cup squad this summer.
He has been a standout performer for Andoni Iraola’s side this season, winning 55 percent of his duels. He’s also averaging 1.6 tackles, 2.1 clearances and 5.1 ball recoveries per 90 minutes.
His performances led former Bournemouth defender Charlie Daniels to call on Tuchel to name the uncapped English star in his World Cup squad.
Asked if he wants to see Scott in the squad, Daniels admitted to talkSPORT: “Yes, I think I do.
“I think he’s played so well this season, and he’s shown it every single game this season, how well he is and how good he is and also in the Under-21s last year when they won.
“So, I think he deserves a chance. Hopefully, Tuchel will give him that chance, and again, it’s just another lovely milestone for Bournemouth.”
