Manchester United are set to miss out on one of their main managerial targets, Thomas Tuchel, as he has reportedly agreed to become the next England boss.

Over the past few days, Tuchel has repeatedly been mentioned as United’s number one choice to replace Erik ten Hag, if Sir Jim Ratcliffe and INEOS were to sanction a managerial change.

Ten Hag is hanging on to his job by a thread amidst United’s extremely poor start to the 2024/25 season.

The Red Devils are currently in 14th position in the Premier League, with just eight points gained from their opening seven Premier League matches.

Ten Hag’s men have found the back of the net on only five occasions and statistically, this is the club’s worst-ever start to a top-flight campaign since 1989/90.

The Dutchman seems to have survived an executive meeting that took place last week, where his future was discussed. However, if results and performances don’t improve, it’s hard to see the 54-year-old being afforded more time in the Old Trafford dugout.

A recent report covered by The Peoples Person relayed that Ten Hag will be fired if United lose their two upcoming matches against Brentford and Fenerbahce in the Europa League.

Over the weekend, it emerged that United were at serious risk of missing out on Tuchel, who was in talks with the FA over potentially succeeding Gareth Southgate.

Earlier today, it was pointed out that England and Tuchel’s camp were in advanced talks and now, it appears that there was a breakthrough, which is bad news for United.

According to The Times, Tuchel has agreed to become the next manager of the Three Lions.

“Thomas Tuchel has agreed to become the new England manager after concluding a deal with the Football Association and an unveiling is expected this week. After a rapid conclusion to negotiations, the Champions League-winning former Chelsea manager will become England’s first German-born boss.”

“Overtures to Tuchel, who has been out of work since leaving Bayern Munich at the end of last season, were made last month by Mark Bullingham, the FA chief executive, and technical director John McDermott. For the FA, there is the added coup of appointing a manager in demand from several of Europe’s leading clubs, notably Manchester United and AC Milan.”

“United held talks with Tuchel in the summer before extending Erik ten Hag’s contract, but United retained an interest in him. In recent weeks Tuchel was made aware that he would be United’s No1 target if they came to replace Ten Hag.”

The Times explain that the FA sounded out other candidates including Pep Guardiola but the Spaniard declined to give a firm answer on whether or not he wanted the job.
