Manchester United are being linked with Porto winger William Gomes, who has a £69m release clause, while Liverpool are weighing up Sporting CP’s Francisco Trincao as they assess wide options following Mohamed Salah’s send-off. Salah had his farewell at Anfield on the final day last season and is preparing for the World Cup.
Record reports that Liverpool are a leading candidate to sign Trincao, whose release clause is about £50m, with Borussia Dortmund also interested. The winger previously had a loan spell at Wolves.
Caught Offside links United and several rivals, including Newcastle, Chelsea, Atletico Madrid and Roma, with William Gomes. It adds the 20-year-old’s exit could be complicated because Sao Paolo retain 20% of his economic rights, and says United have sent a recruiter to Portugal for talks. Porto are likely to demand a fee close to the clause, which could deter a bid.
Talk Sport claims Chelsea would consider selling Marc Cucurella for the right offer, with Atletico Madrid interested. Chelsea are seeking to recoup close to the £62m paid in 2022, while Atleti want nearer £40m, and with three years left on his contract the Blues hold a strong position.
United are not as well stocked on the right as some rivals, but a nine-figure midfield rebuild could make a major winger outlay unrealistic. If no move materialises this summer, they could revisit the position next year.
