Manchester United U18s lost a two-goal lead to draw 2-2 with Liverpool in the U18 Premier League North fixture played at the Liverpool Training Centre on Saturday.

Head coach Adam Lawrence elected to use Victor Musa to lead the line due to Chido Obi-Martin’s involvement with the U21s on Friday against Tottenham.

Lawrence made two alterations to the side that lost to West Ham United in the Premier League Cup.

Cameron Byrne-Hughes replaced Will Murdock in goal, and Dan Armer came into the defence for Jayden Kamason.

United grabbed the lead in the 17th minute as Albert Mills nodded Jim Thwaites’ corner to Musa, who put the ball home.

Musa doubled United’s advantage in the 28th minute, heading captain Reece Munro’s cross into the net, leaving the Red’s goalkeeper Bailey Hall helpless.

Left-back Godwill Kukonki had two chances to extend the Red Devils’ lead but could not convert on both occasions.

Liverpool pulled one back before half-time through Joshua Sonni-Lambie, whose deflected shot could not be kept out by Byrne-Hughes.

The Reds took the momentum into the second half, creating several goalscoring opportunities, but Byrne-Hughes thwarted their efforts.

Thwaites and Kukonki wasted opportunities to put United in firm control of the tie. Thwaites’ free-kick drifted narrowly wide, and Hall parried away Kukonki’s header

Hall also made two saves to deny Musa from getting his first hat-trick of the season and denied substitute Shea Lacey from netting a goal on his return from injury.

Liverpool levelled the scoring in the 89th minute as Tyler Martin’s deflected strike from a corner beat the goalkeeper.

United missed the chance to close the gap on league leaders Manchester City, who were not in action. They are three points behind the Cityzens.

They have failed to win their last two games and will hope to return to winning ways when they host Chelsea in the FA Youth Cup fifth round on Wednesday.
