The Red Devils have played I Rossoneri ten times in their history in the European Cup and Champions League.

United have come out on top five times, with the Italians also being victorious on five occasions.

The last match between the two sides in a competitive setting was a 7-2 aggregate win for the Red Devils in 2010.

Here are three storylines to look forward to.

Ruben Amorim re-match

The Red Devils have a complicated and brief history with Ruben Amorim.

The Portuguese coach spent just fourteen months at Old Trafford but oversaw some terrible football, finishing fifteenth in the Premier League table during the 2024/2025 season.

Amorim was finally sacked in January 2026 after falling out with director of football Jason Wilcox and was replaced by current manager Michael Carrick.

What’s more, the Portuguese manager caused massive division in the fanbase over his chosen 3-4-3 formation and emotional outbursts.

After months of speculation, Amorim was finally hired by Milan, and United will have the chance to face him later today.

Marcus Rashford and Kobbie Mainoo

United will welcome back their two English players who went to the World Cup with the national team.

The return of Rashford is also particularly interesting, as he was expected to leave the club earlier this summer, but with every passing day, it looks more and more likely that he will remain at Old Trafford this season.

To add an extra layer of tension, both players fell out with Milan boss Amorim while he was at the club.

Rashford was exiled and sent out on loan to Aston Villa and then FC Barcelona, while Mainoo remained at the club but found first-team opportunities few and far between.

First start for Tielemans

The Belgian star has impressed with his silky passing and confidence on the ball in his two pre-season matches up to this point.

Tielemans has only played limited minutes from the bench, so he will likely be in line to play his first match from the start against Milan, and United supporters will be keen to witness how he pairs with fellow midfielders Andrey Santos and Bruno Fernandes ahead of the first Premier League match of the season.
