Chido Obi made several appearances for Manchester United in 2024-25 but is now limited to the U-21s. Here are three clubs where he could get game time

Chido Obi is highly-rated and played Premier League football for Manchester United last season, but now he's back in their Under-21s.

The fledgling career of Chido Obi has taken a bit of a backward step this season.

The 17-year-old Danish forward made seven appearances in the Premier League for Manchester United last season, and has earned himself rave reviews in the past, but he doesn't seem to be particularly in Ruben Amorim's plans for this campaign and has found himself back with the Under-21s this time around.

The obvious thing for United to do at this point in the young player's career would be to get him out on loan and get him some game time.

The experience would be good for him, and there are certainly EFL clubs who could benefit from having him among their number.

With all of that in mind, Football League World takes a look at three EFL clubs that could be good destinations for him when the transfer window opens again in January...

West Bromwich Albion

Rookie head coach Ryan Mason is in a spot of bother at The Hawthorns.

With one win in their last five matches, West Bromwich Albion are wedged in the bottom half of the table and their biggest issue is scoring goals.

Having scored just twelve in their 14 games so far, they could do with more goals and Obi is a potential option.

While in the Under-16s with Arsenal, he made headlines by scoring ten goals in 14-3 win against Liverpool Under-16s two years ago in November 2023, following that up by scoring seven in a 9-0 win against Norwich City's Under-16s the following April.

He left Arsenal for Manchester United in the summer of 2024. His record for his international team is also impressive, with 12 in 19 appearances for the Denmark Under-17s particularly standing out.

West Bromwich Albion also have another United loanee already among their ranks, with Toby Collyer having joined them in the summer on a season-long loan, so the young player would also have a familiar face upon his arrival at The Hawthorns.

On top of this, Albion only have three players in on loan at present, so there's plenty of space for more loan signings if they wish.

The big question facing Albion at the moment is whether Mason, who has considerable experience of working with younger players from his time at Spurs, will still be there to coach him by the new year.

Unless Albion's results start to improve again, he may well not be.

Sheffield Wednesday

In administration, miles adrift at the foot of the Championship table on account of their points deduction and under a transfer embargo, Sheffield Wednesday might not appear to be the obvious destination for an ambitious young player, but there's a case to be made that such a move could work out for all parties.

When left-back Harry Amass signed for Wednesday on loan during the summer, it was under the terms that Manchester United would continue to pay the full costs of the player being there on account of Wednesday's embargo.

If they could be persuaded to repeat that, then the signing could yet happen even if the club is still under this embargo by the new year.

And United are unlikely to be disappointed with Amass's progress at Hillsborough.

The 18-year-old has been dropped into a situation which could at best be described as 'character forming', but he's made nine appearances at left-back for Wednesday so far this season and has performed creditably under extremely stressful circumstances. He even seems to be enjoying the experience of being there.

If the administrators, the EFL and Manchester United can be persuaded, Obi could be a valuable addition to a Wednesday team that has been struggling in front of goal this season, with just ten in their first 13 Championship matches of the season so far.

And as with Toby Collyer at West Brom, the presence of Amass would be a familiar face for Obi once he arrives.

Luton Town

Another team that has been struggling for goals in the early stages of 2025-26 are League One side, Luton Town.

New head coach Jack Wilshere inherited a team that has been faltering in the attacking third of the pitch in the League, though they did manage to bag four to edge past Forest Green Rovers in the First Round of the FA Cup.

Discounting the one own goal they've benefited from, the Hatters have scored 14 goals in their first 13 games of the season.

But while they've had eleven different scorers already, only two of them - Gideon Kodua and Jordan Clark - have scored more than once, and they've only scored two goals and three respectively.

Bringing in a young player could seriously benefit them, and since they only have three players in on loan at present, Obi could be brought in without any difficulties in that respect.

Luton are already six points short of the League One play-off places, but in a division that has been extremely tight so far - there are just ten points between sixth-placed Wimbledon and 20th-placed Reading - the addition of a more reliable goalscorer could prove to be the kick-start they need in the new year to push back towards the promotion contention that they'd expected at the start of the season.
