Manchester United are prepared to part ways with Casemiro this summer. However, they aren’t willing to go below their asking price.

The 33-year-old started his campaign on a torrid form. His early-season struggles can be encapsulated by his shocking display against Liverpool at Old Trafford back in September.

Nevertheless, the Brazilian has apparently caught a second wind, with some of his recent performances evoking memories of the midfield enforcer who reigned supreme in the Champions League alongside his former Real Madrid teammates Toni Kroos and Luka Modric.

But despite his vastly improved form (including his ‘colossal’ display in the comeback against Lyon), INEOS would still be happy to offload him in the summer, as he remains the club’s highest-paid player, commanding a weekly salary of £350,000.

Italian journalist Fabrizio Romano has recently revealed that the veteran could be on his way out of the club.

“Yes, it’s still a possibility. If a good proposal for player and club arrives, he can still leave,” said the transfer market expert in an update for GiveMeSport.

But according to the Manchester Evening News, United won’t sanction a sale for less than £15 million. This isn’t a random figure that the club estimates as a fair price, but rather the required amount to avoid recording a loss as per the Premier League’s profitability and sustainability rules.

Man United won’t accept offers lower than £15m for Casemiro

Man United signed Casemiro in the summer of 2022 for £60 million, tying him to a four-year contract. This means that his yearly amortisation cost is £15 million. So, with only one year remaining on the contract, this is the figure that the Red Devils must collect to balance the books.

On the other hand, any figure higher than £15m would constitute a capital gain, while a lower fee would see the Reds register a loss.

But aside from finding a suitor willing to pay this amount, matching the midfielder’s current salary is another challenging task.

Casemiro had been linked with Saudi Pro League clubs in the past, and one would imagine that an Arab suitor would be best positioned to cover the expenses of this operation.

It remains to be seen if the veteran would be interested in a move to Saudi Arabia. Otherwise, he might end up fulfilling his contract with United.
