Manchester United are understood to have no interest in re-signing Cristiano Ronaldo for a third spell, according to Sky Sports, with that option said to be firmly closed amid mounting exit talk at Al-Nassr.

Ronaldo, 41, has gone on strike in the Saudi Pro League and has missed two matches, both won by Al-Nassr. Despite a deal worth close to £500,000 per day, he is disappointed by PIF-linked funding distribution.

He has faced criticism for attempting to wield too much influence since arriving in 2023. The league has made clear he will not dictate matters on or off the pitch, and Al-Nassr control recruitment and funding for marquee arrivals.

Reports suggest a £44 million release clause can be triggered in the next window, which could allow a summer 2026 departure. Even late in a record-breaking career, clubs worldwide could still invest for sporting and commercial reasons.

Possible destinations mooted include a return to Sporting or a reunion with Lionel Messi at Inter Miami. Some United fans would also welcome him back, although his last stint ended in November 2022 when his contract was terminated.

Former United defender Wes Brown doubts a third act at Old Trafford and floated MLS or Portugal as likelier options. He also believes Ronaldo still aims to play at the World Cup and expects the strike row to be resolved. Ronaldo may wait until after this summer’s World Cup finals before deciding his next move.
