Man Utd insider reveals INEOS stance on sacking Michael Carrick | OneFootball

After a stellar start to his managerial stint, Manchester United head coach Michael Carrick is now facing his most difficult moment since taking over from Ruben Amorim.

The 45-year-old began his tenure with a victory over Manchester City in January, launching a stellar run that ended with a comfortable Champions League qualification.

Carrick’s exploits were rewarded with the permanent role. However, the Red Devils are currently enduring a woeful start to the new Premier League campaign.

Man Utd’s season began with a shocking defeat at Hull. The team retaliated by beating Ipswich Town 5-2 in their maiden fixture at Old Trafford, but they squandering a two-goal lead against Everton in their following outing.

On Sunday, the Reds were presented with a golden opportunity to beat their crosstown rivals who were reduced to 10 men after 23 minutes following Phil Foden’s red card.

However, they ended up suffering a baffling defeat due to Erling Haaland’s winner (which only stood due to an error of judgement from the VAR).

After collecting four points in as many games, United find themselves 13th in the league standings. They are already eight points adrift of the EPL’s joint leaders, Arsenal and Man City.

MUFC’s poor start sparked some calls to sack Carrick, especially after making some questionable decisions in the second half of the derby.

Nevertheless, Carrington insider Sully bluntly squashed these rumours, insiting that the board continnues to back the former midfielder.

“No. Full backing,” posted the journalist on his X (formerly Twitter) account when asked if Carrick is already under pressure from the board.

Carrick and his staff have many things to improve, including their game management and creating chances against low blocks.

However, the 45-year-old is hardly the first MUFC manager to start the season on a poor note. And unlike his predecessors, the Englishman wasn’t properly backed in the market, with INEOS failing to address some key squad issues, particularly the left-back and back-up striker roles.

Hence, the board must take a hard look in the mirror before assessing Carrick’s work.

Moreover, it should be remembered that the club legend was confirmed partially due to the lack of a better alternative, which likely remains the case.

So unless the situation truly spirals in the coming weeks, Carrick’s future shouldn’t be on the discussion table.
