Manchester United are reportedly interested in bringing Joao Cancelo back to the Premier League following his spat with Pep Guardiola.
The 30-year-old is considered among the best full-backs of the current generation. After representing the likes of Valencia, Inter Milan and Juventus, he joined Manchester City in the summer of 2019 and rapidly established himself as one of the club’s most devastating weapons.
However, the Portuguese’s time at the Etihad ended in unsavoury fashion. Following a well-illustrated fallout with Guardiola, he was shown the door in the middle of the season, joining Bayern Munich on a six-month loan in January 2023. This cost him the opportunity to lift the Champions League trophy at the end of the season, but he still managed to impress his teammates in Bavaria.
“He fits in really well – he’s technically good. His crosses are exceptional,” said Jamal Musiala during Cancelo’s time with the Bundesliga giants.

The Portugal international then spent the 2023/24 season on loan at Barcelona, before signing for Al-Hilal last summer. The versatile star has now found his footing again in the Saudi Pro League. He has already contributed with two goals and 10 assists across all competitions this season, suggesting he still has all the makings of a top-notch full-back who should be playing at the highest level.
So according to Fichajes.net, three clubs are interested in bringing Cancelo back to the Old Continent, including Man Utd.
The Red Devils would offer the well-travelled star the opportunity to work under the tutelage of his compatriot Ruben Amorim. The latter would be delighted to have a quality wideman capable of playing on either flank, especially given his tendency to alter his wingbacks.
The Spanish source also names AC Milan and Aston Villa as Cancelo’s two other suitors, but it remains to be seen if he would consider a return to Europe just one year following his lucrative transfer to Saudi Arabia.
