Harry Amass has been linked with interest from a number of Championship clubs this summer

Manchester United defender Harry Amass spent last season on loan with Sheffield Wednesday and Norwich City.

The full-back made a strong impression with the Owls, making 21 appearances for the club as they struggled for results due to significant off-field issues.

The teenager earned his first spell of consistent senior minutes under Henrik Pedersen and was rewarded with the player of the month award at Hillsborough for both November and December.

But he was recalled by the Premier League side in January, which led to his switch to Carrow Road, which ultimately saw him struggle with fitness issues.

It has now been reported that Man United are willing to cash in on Amass this summer, setting a £6 million price tag.

Here we look at two clubs in the Championship who should look to pounce on the left-back…

Birmingham City

Birmingham City were rocked by the departure of Kai Wagner earlier in the window, with the full-back returning to Philadelphia Union just six months after signing for the Blues.

This has left the Midlands outfit in need of a new full-back, and Amass could be a smart option as a direct replacement for the German.

Both are quite aggressive in possession and like to get involved in attack, and Amass showed in his spell with Sheffield Wednesday that he has what it takes to compete to a high level in the Championship.

At 19, the defender also has a lot of room to still improve his game and Davies could be an ideal coach to help him develop.

If Birmingham are willing to spend £6 million, or close to it, then this has the potential to be a very smart piece of business in both the short-term and in the long-term.

Amass is someone that could be worth a lot more than £6 million in the future, if he lives up to the high expectations placed on him.

A return to Norwich for next season could still make plenty of sense for Philippe Clement’s side.

It was a real disappointment for all parties that a string of injury issues led to Amass only featuring one time for the Canaries last season.

With the speculation surrounding Kellen Fisher’s future, it’s still an area that the club may want to strengthen before the 1 September deadline, especially with Ben Chrisene and Lucien Mahovo their only other current options.

A deal at around the £6 million mark might be a bit risky for Norwich, but if Amass can put his fitness issues behind him then it has the potential to be a strong move for the club.

The defender is still only 19, and his impressive performances in the Championship for Sheffield Wednesday show what he can do when he is at his best.

In a side that struggled to compete in the second division last season, Amass created 0.57 chances per 90 from left-back, won 7.7 duels and 1.24 aerial duels each game (all stats from Fotmob).

Amass also made 3.11 tackles and 1.24 interceptions per 90, which all highlight his defensive strength while showing he can still get up and contribute in attack.

The youngster is a threat in the final third while also able to provide defensive solidity, so could become an even more valuable asset in the future if he hits anywhere close to his full potential.
