Manchester United are keeping tabs on one of Bayern Munich’s most experienced players.

The Red Devils had a productive summer transfer window where they made five high-profile signings.

The club invested heavily in their defence, signing Leny Yoro, Matthijs de Ligt and Noussair Mazraoui.

They also bolstered their midfield with Manuel Ugarte, while Joshua Zirkzee was added to reinforce the attack.

Ugarte has yet to become a mainstay in the starting XI but should be a key player soon.

Sky Sport Germany journalist Florian Plettenberg now claims that United are keeping a close eye on Bayern’s Leon Goretzka.

United could invest in a midfielder in January, and Goretza is mentioned as ‘an interesting candidate’.

However, the 2020 Champions League winner has his sights on staying with Bayern beyond January.

United could only consider a loan deal for Goretzka

The Red Devils have changed their transfer policy since the minority takeover by INEOS.

The onus is on purchasing emerging talents and players in the prime of their careers.

Goretzka would not fit into their strategy. He will turn 30 in February and is no longer an assured starter under Vincent Kompany.

The German has been a regular unused substitute, with Aleksandar Pavlovic and Joshua Kimmich preferred in midfield.

The midfielder could be past his prime over the coming years, and signing him permanently does not make sense.

However, United may consider a temporary deal for the back end of the season.

Even that could depend on Casemiro heading for the exit door. United will also want Bayern to contribute part of Goretzka’s £290,000 per week wages.
