Manchester United are ‘seriously enquiring’ about Porto star Marko Grujic ahead of a potential summer transfer.
Grujic joined the Portuguese side in the summer for £8m from Liverpool after multiple loan moves away from Anfield.
The Serbia international made just 16 appearances for Liverpool despite being on their books for six years following his £6m move from Red Star Belgrade.
Telegraf (via Sport Witness) now claim that United are ‘seriously enquiring’ about the Porto star and contacts ‘have already been stabilised through intermediaries’.
But the report claims Grujic’s Liverpool allegiance could hamper United’s chase of the 26-year-old.
Grujic is said to be a ‘big fan of Liverpool since childhood’ so would have a dilemma of his own besides the potential to ‘disappoint’ the fans.
It’s claimed AC Milan are also interested in signing Grujic this summer and have also started to talks with his representatives.
United boss Erik ten Hag is thought to be on the lookout for new midfielders in the summer as he continues his Old Trafford rebuild.
Eddie Howe apparently believes McTominay ‘has the physical attributes to succeed in his system’ and would play just in front of the back four, which would allow Guimaraes ‘to play further up the pitch to add more creativity in the final third’.
The Magpies had ‘tentative interest’ in the Scotland midfielder in January and did not pursue a deal, while the Red Devils were reluctant to sell to a direct rival for the Champions League places.
Newcastle ‘hope’ that stance will be ‘softened’ in the summer window with Ten Hag needing to sell to be able to buy.
Howe, chief scout Steve Nickson and director of football Dan Ashworth all agree McTominay ‘would add something different to the squad’, although he will not be seen as a ‘glamorous name’ that will excite supporters.
