Man Utd set €10m asking price for ‘unpopular’ star; Club-to-club talks will take place ‘as soon as possible’

Manchester United are preparing to negotiate the sale of Andre Onana to Trabzonspor, who are keen to keep the goalkeeper among their ranks.

The 30-year-old has been on MUFC’s books since the summer of 2023, when he made the move from Inter Milan for £47.5 million.

However, the Cameroonian endured two miserable campaigns at Old Trafford, mostly remembered for his costly howlers.

Retired Italian goalkeeper Alberto Fontana suggested Onana is ‘unpopular’ among his teammates due to his flamboyant style, which often impedes the team.

Trabzonspor keen to open Man Utd talks

In September 2025, the former Ajax goalkeeper was shown the door following Senne Lammens’ arrival at Man Utd. He ended up signing for Trabzonspor on loan.

Luckily for the Cameroonian, he found far more success at the Turkish club, who decided to extend his time at the club.

Hence, Trabzonspor secured another loan deal for Onana in the summer, securing his services until June 2027.

But according to Turkish portal ‘Turkiye’, the Super Lig side would like to keep the Man Utd loanee on a permanent basis. The custodian is also open to signing a long-term deal.

Therefore, Trabzonspor are expected to open talks with Man Utd ‘as soon as possible’. The Premier League giants are reportedly requesting a €10 million (£8.5 million) transfer fee for the player whose contract will expire in June 2028.

The Turkish club is hoping for a discount, but United might not be able to afford it given Onana’s relatively high book value.

Thanks to Trabzonspor, Man Utd were able to take one of their biggest flops (who also happens to be one of their highest earners) off the wage bill for two years.

Therefore, one would imagine that the two clubs should be able to find a third agreement, especially with all parties, including the player, pushing in the same direction.

Sadly for Onana, he was perhaps out of his depth at United, despite guiding Inter to the Champions League before arriving at Carrington.

But the good news for the Cameroonian is that he was able to find his haven in Turkiye, as he seems to be enjoying his football once again.
