Cardiff and Bolton should be on high alert after Man United take Gabriele Biancheri stance

Championship clubs have been linked with a move to sign Manchester United youngster Gabriele Biancheri.

It has been reported by journalist James Lewer that the 19-year-old is attracting interest from a number of second division sides as we approach the final days of the transfer window.

The Wales U21 international spent time on loan with Rotherham United last season, where he made 11 appearances in League One.

While the forward was unable to contribute a single goal or assist, he is still earning transfer interest ahead of the 1 September deadline.

Manchester United are believed to be open to his departure, with a breakthrough into Michael Carrick’s first team plans now unlikely.

Here we look at two sides in the Championship who must be on alert with Biancheri now potentially available on a permanent basis…

Gabriel Biancheri spent 10 years at Cardiff City prior to joining the Man United academy system in 2023, so perhaps a return to the Welsh outfit could be on the cards.

The 19-year-old has already earned his way into the U21 setup of the Welsh national team, where he already plays with the likes of Cian Ashford and Luey Giles.

So he knows the club well, and could make his return if he is to depart Old Trafford before the market closes on 1 September.

Brian Barry-Murphy's squad could also use the additional firepower of adding one more forward before the end of the window, as they look to re-establish themselves at this level long-term.

While Yousef Salech now looks like he will be staying with the club amid previous transfer interest in his services, Cardiff will want adequate cover to provide back-up for the 24-year-old.

Someone like Biancheri could be a smart option, as he is still only 19, and could be available at a reasonably low cost in these closing stages of the transfer market.

The youngster possesses a lot of potential, and could become a much more valuable player in the future if he can start to meet that potential under the guidance of Barry-Murphy, who himself has a strong reputation for developing talent.

Bolton Wanderers

Bolton Wanderers earned their promotion to the second division last season, and have been looking to strengthen their squad this summer in order to survive at this level.

While Biancheri is unlikely to be good enough to go straight into Steven Schumacher’s starting lineup.

The forward could be a promising addition to provide some much-needed depth in attack.

The 19-year-old is still developing, and has the potential to be a Championship level talent if he makes the move to the right environment.

Playing under Sam Dalby and Ryan Hardie could be a good learning experience, and would give Bolton that extra bit of cover if needed in attack.

The Man United youngster is also capable of playing on the right flank, and that’s an area of the pitch that the Whites need to strengthen before the market closes.

Given the likely cost of a deal, this is a move that might suit Bolton and their limited resources in the final week of the market.
