Manchester United moved up to third in the Premier League after coming from behind to defeat 10-men Crystal Palace.
The Eagles looked like they were back to their best for much of the first half hour at Old Trafford and took an early lead through a corner. It was Brennan Johnson's delivery that Maxence Lacroix met and headed into the corner after getting the better of his marker, Leny Yoro.
United slowly grew into the game and were starting to show some signs of life just before half-time but for the most part Palace looked comfortable enough.
However, that changed shortly after the second half when Lacroix – responsible for putting his side ahead – conceded a penalty and received a red card (with the latter after a VAR review) for a foul on Matheus Cunha that started on the outside of the area and continued until just inside the box.
After a long wait, Bruno Fernandes eventually stepped up and sent Dean Henderson the wrong way while slotting into the bottom right corner.
From that point on United were likely to go on and win the game and they took the lead for the first time in the 65th minute when Fernandes whipped in a cross that Benjamin Sesko – starting the game today – headed in to make it 2-1.
United had chances to get a third with Casemiro forcing Henderson into a fine save. The visitors rallied though late on when they realised all was not lost, especially with eight minutes of time added on at the end but when they did go forward, they looked weak on the counter, opportunities United didn't manage to take full advantage of.
In the end though, it was a well-earned three points for Manchester United that moves them up to third with the early injury of Luke Shaw likely to be the only sore point for Michael Carrick.
