Manchester United are considering a move for Atalanta midfielder Ederson ahead of the winter transfer window, according to journalist Florian Plettenberg.
The Red Devils strengthened their midfield department with the purchase of Manuel Ugarte from Paris Saint-Germain during the last transfer window.
However, there could be another addition to the squad in 2025, considering Casemiro and Christian Eriksen have been tipped to head for the exit door.
Plettenberg claims that United are ‘discussing’ and ‘considering’ Ederson, who is ‘highly valued’ internally.
The club wants midfield reinforcements and the Brazilian’s situation is ‘one to watch’ out for ahead of the New Year.
The Red Devils were interested in signing the 25-year-old last summer. They made a verbal offer of around £46 million which was snubbed by Atalanta.
Despite this, the clubs have ‘excellent’ relations. There is a possibility that United could return for the talented Brazilian depending on manager Ruben Amorim’s requirements.
Ederson is one of the best central midfielders in Serie A. He has a passing accuracy of 88 percent this term, with an average of five recoveries and 4.8 duels won.
The midfielder has also impressed with his high pressing and tireless work rate. He could be a perfect foil for Manuel Ugarte in the heart of the Red Devils midfield.
However, a deal is unlikely to happen in January. United may not have funds to spend due to Profitability and Sustainability issues and could wait until the summer.
Atalanta are tough negotiators, and are unlikely to accept an initial loan deal.
Ederson is one of Atalanta’s highly prized assets. They believe he is already worth three times the £19m fee they paid to sign him from Salernitana.
