Man Utd's refreshed front three showing new beginnings

Manchester United's good form in the league is reflected by their front three who are now starting to show their capabilities.

The Red Devils spent big in the summer to bring in Bryan Mbeumo, Matheus Cunha, and Benjamin Šeško, which manager Ruben Amorim hoped to improve on the output by the likes of Marcus Rashford, Alejandro Garnacho, and Rasmus Højlund last season.

While those three players have found new leases of life away from the club – with Højlund among the goals for Napoli, Garnacho bagging his first in Chelsea's loss to Sunderland, and Marcus Rashford assisting in El Clásico – the new front three look like they're gelling well with Amorim's system.

Chief among them is Bryan Mbeumo, who scored twice against Brighton & Hove Albion at the weekend.

The Cameroon international is currently United's top scorer for the season with five goals in all competitions, and his four Premier League strikes rank him joint sixth in the league – it would have been fifth had Danny Welbeck not scored once again on Saturday.

Mbeumo is also second in the league for progressive passes received (82) which shows how he is often a good outlet for United while going forward. He also ranks highly in key passes (16, sixth in the league), through balls (sixth place again with six), and passes into the penalty area (15, ranking him fifth).

Meanwhile, Matheus Cunha finally got his name on the scoresheet with a well-taken effort from outside the area to open the scoring against the Seagulls.

Benjamin Šeško had a quiet start at Old Trafford but soon made his presence known with a shot just wide before the break and later an assist for Mbeumo's first goal of the night.

Most importantly for Amorim, all of his front three are currently in the top six for shots on target per 90 minutes played in the Premier League. Cunha is third with 1.55 shots on target per 90, Mbeumo fifth on 1.39, and Šeško just behind him on sixth with 1.27 per 90.

It's still early days for United's front three but so far it seems that they are a big reason for the Red Devils back in a more familiar position in the league table.
