Liverpool’s landmark summer transfer window had a big impact on some of the club’s Premier League title winners.

The 2024/25 squad has been broken up - with the likes of Darwin Nunez, Luis Diaz and others being moved on. Those attackers had to leave in order to make space for the new arrivals up front.

We’ve seen sporting director Richard Hughes bring in Florian Wirtz, Alexander Isak and Hugo Ekitike - with the club twice breaking the British transfer record.

Arne Slot’s attacking options have been improved over the summer - but there is one man still uncertain of his future having failed to secure a move in the transfer window just gone.

Chiesa falls down the pecking order again

Federico Chiesa, 27, joined Liverpool from Juventus for a fee that could reach £12.5m last summer. His maiden campaign was disappointing from a personal standpoint - as he barely featured due to injury and a lack of form.

But the Italian international got himself sorted out over the preseason period - forcing his way into Slot’s plans for the opening matches of the season.

It doesn’t look like Chiesa is going to have a significant role to play this season however - with several players ahead of him in the pecking order.

AC Milan want Chiesa in January

Rio Ngumoha, the Reds’ 17-year-old prodigy, has been selected ahead of the more seasoned Chiesa for the Champions League league phase.

That blow left Chiesa’s fate in the balance - with the winger tipped to move back to Serie A and Besiktas were also interested.

Transfer noise hasn’t quietened down despite the window closing - and Chiesa is now being linked with a reunion with his former Juventus manager Max Allegri in January.

Allegri is now in charge of AC Milan - and the Rossoneri are reported to be interested in a cut-price loan deal for Chiesa this winter.

Moreover a report now claims that Chiesa will be pushing hard for an Anfield exit having fallen down the pecking order.

“He isn't and won't be a key player, which is why he'll be pushing harder in January to leave and regain consistency, hopefully also with a view to the national team and therefore the World Cup,” a report on Milan Live reads.

“AC Milan could become an opportunity: a low-cost €5 million signing to further strengthen a squad that is already worthy of the Scudetto.”

The article also talked up the relationship between the two Italians - with Chiesa scoring 16 goals and adding 14 assists in 86 games for Allegri at Juventus between 2021 and 2024.

“Chiesa has always been full of praise for Allegri and his human qualities," it states. "And the coach himself appreciates Federico as a young man and wouldn't mind having him back.”
