Andrey Santos’ season is going from great to fantastic.

He scored twice as Strasbourg got an impressive 3-1 win at home against Nantes. The Brazilian now has 5 goals this season – more than any other central midfielder in Europe’s top 5 leagues.

He’s not just scoring either he’s got the most tackles on his team by far, and has a brilliant duel success rate. In the air and on the ground he wins the ball, passes it well, and gets into the box.

WhoScored have him rated as 7.52 on average for the season that’s the 5th best in the whole of France. He’s single handedly leading the team to wins now, and Chelsea must be delighted that their €12.5m gamble is paying off.

Goal machine Santos praised by coach

Santos’ manager Liam Rosenior has made an impressive start to life in Ligue 1, and he was full of positive words about Santos and his rapid rise to the top:

“It’s a pleasure to work with Andrey Santos. He’s a good listener and has a great character. We worked with him this week to get him to touch the ball even more,” Rosenior said. It’s not the first time he’s praised him.

“Tonight, he was rewarded. He has a good feel for shots to be in the right place in the penalty area.”

You’re telling us. The guy is a goal machine He’s got 20 career goals from midfield and isn’t 21 until May. He’s got to be back at Chelsea next season, and we can’t wait to see more of his development in France this year.

A couple of weeks ago he was brilliant against Marseille, and he’s still got so many areas he can improve. It’s very exciting, especially given how much the first team needs a midfielder who scores.
