Manager raves about 'CLEVER' moment 'GREAT' Liverpool player did on loan | OneFootball

One of Liverpool's young stars has caught the eye with a clever moment this weekend while out on loan.

It's been a long time since Liverpool have had so many promising young talents catching the eye on loan.

But the Reds have built an impressive academy over the last few years and Jurgen Klopp has done a brilliant job at promoting those young players into the first team in order to give them more exposure.

Now Klopp's former proteges are taking the next step in their careers out on loan before hoping to break into Arne Slot's senior squad.

The 'clever' thing Luca Stephenson did while out on loan

One of those young players catching the eye at the moment is Luca Stephenson.

The 21-year-old spent the previous season out on loan at Barrow before getting a taste of first team football under Slot in pre-season, participating in the Reds' tour to the United States.

Stephenson produced some promising moments during the summer but was ultimately sent on loan to Dundee United, where he has started the season in great form.

Stephenson scored on his first start in Scotland's top flight and has three goal contributions in four league matches after registering two assists against Kilmarnock in a 3-3 draw last weekend.

It hasn't been all sunshine and rainbows, though. In a 1-0 defeat to Rangers, it was Stephenson, who gave away a penalty which saw his side lose the game.

But his manager, Jim Goodwin, has praised him for the way he bounced back from that disappointment last weekend, including for one 'clever' moment in particular.

“With the penalty, it’s clever from Luca Stephenson to get himself goal side of the Kilmarnock defender, who is ball watching a bit and there is contact with his left calf which leads to the penalty," Goodwin told the Scottish Herald.

“Stephenson held his hands up in the dressing room after that rash decision at Fir Park last weekend (to give away a penalty). Nobody in their career has probably done it as much as I have so I have every sympathy for him but he’s man enough to own up to it.

“The players and the staff all got round him and picked his head up and he showed a positive reaction today. We’ve got to remember the boy’s age as well and where he’s come from. He’s had a great education at Liverpool and we’re hoping to continue that.

“He’ll learn from situations like that and games like today are important moments in all the players’ careers as well.”
