City player ratings

Gianluigi Donnarumma-6/10: Didn’t have a lot to do in goal in terms of saves. Although he did make a mess of a late Real Madrid corner.

Matheus Nunes-6.5/10: Nunes struggled early on against Vinicius Junior but overcame that to put in a decent display.

Ruben Dias-7.5/10: I thought Ruben Dias was Manchester City’s best-performing defender on the night.

Josko Gvardiol-6.5/10: The Croatian international got caught in possession on occasions, especially in the first half. He did get better as the game wore on.

Nico O’Reilly-8.5/10: O’Reilly had moments when he struggled defensively in the opening half-hour. But he grew into the game. His goal was crucial and he was a valuable attacking weapon for City throughout the match.

Nico-7.5/10: Did his job well in midfield. His performance showed he belongs at this level for Manchester City.

Bernardo Silva-6/10: Manchester City’s captain never stopped working for his team. But he did get caught in possession on occasions and one instance did lead to Real Madrid’s goal.

Rayan Cherki-8/10: Another quality showing from Cherki. Some of his touches were magical and he was a constant threat to the Real Madrid defence. He well and truly belongs on the biggest stage as his performance showed tonight.

Phil Foden-6/10: A subdued performance from Foden. Had some nice touches but not at his best.

Jeremy Doku-7.5/10: Had his moments and I thought he was a constant menace to the Real Madrid defence.

Erling Haaland-7/10: Took his penalty superbly well and I thought he won his battle with Antonio Rudiger.

Substitutes

Tijjani Reijnders-6/10: Got minutes into his legs as City pushed for more control in midfield late on.

Omar Marmoush-6/10: Replaced Haaland for the final 20 minutes but didn’t get a lot of service to feed off of.

Savinho-6.5/10: Better from Savinho when he came on. There is a player there when he is up for it.

Nathan Ake-N/A: Not on long enough to mark.
