Manchester City have announced the signing of Marc Guehi from Crystal Palace.
The England centre-back has signed a long-term deal at the Etihad, with the Citizens paying an initial fee of around £20m. The final fee could rise to around £30m with add-ons.
City have capitalised on Guehi's contract situation to sign the defender for a reduced figure. The 25-year-old's deal was due to expire in the summer, withCrystal Palace opting to sell now, rather than lose their club captain as a free agent.
Guehi boostsManchester City's depleted defensive stocks with Ruben Dias, John Stones and Josko Gvardiol all currently sidelined.
Guehi becomesManchester City's second signing of the January transfer window. He joins Antoine Semenyo, who arrived from Premier League rivals Bournemouth in a £62.5m transfer earlier this month.
City Director of Football Hugo Viana said he was delighted to sign 'one of the best defenders in English football.
“It is clear Marc has been one of the best defenders in English football for quite some time now, so we are absolutely delighted to bring him toManchester City,” Viana said.
“I feel we have signed a huge talent who will help us improve. He is only 25, but he has shown already he is a leader, a brilliant professional and someone desperate to improve.
“He is strong, has exceptional defensive qualities, is an intelligent reader of the game, and brings passion and energy every time he steps onto the pitch.
“I am so pleased it was us he chose to join.
“Marc is entering the prime years of his career. I am sure every City fan is excited to see how good he can be in a sky blue shirt.”
