In a recent report, journalist Graeme Bailey revealed that Manchester City are facing stiff competition for Inter Milan defender Alessandro Bastoni. It has been mentioned that the Mancunian club would have to rival Barcelona, Liverpool and Chelsea in the race to land the Italian centre-back next year.

Bastoni’s Impressive Form In Serie A

Bastoni enjoyed a decent run of form at the Italian club in the previous campaign when he put in a lot of solid performances for them on the defensive end of the pitch. The 27-year-old made 40 appearances for Inter Milan last season, scoring two goals and earning six assists across multiple competitions.

The Italian talent is currently among the most talented centre-backs in Serie A. Hence, it is no surprise that Man City are eyeing a move to recruit him next year.

His current contract at the San Siro will run out in the summer of 2028, which could open the door for the Mancunian club to land him on the cheap at the end of this campaign.

Should Manchester City Boss Enzo Maresca Move In For Bastoni?

Bastoni loves a tackle and can read the danger well to make some timely interceptions for his side inside his half. He usually clears his lines when required and is proficient at playing his way out from the back.

Standing at 1.90m, the Italian sensation can use his strong frame to win a few 50-50 aerial duels for his team. Bastoni can also chip in by scoring and creating a few important goals going forward. However, there are some question marks on whether he can maintain his good form in the Premier League if Man City end up winning the race for his services.

We can expect Bastoni to bring more bite and steel to Enzo Maresca’s defence. He has what it takes to fight for a regular starting place at the Etihad Stadium.

At 27, Bastoni is about to enter his prime, which makes him a worthy target for the Mancunian club to pursue next year. He will also help Man City compete for some major honours over the next few seasons. Hence, Maresca should focus on moving in for him soon.
