Josko Gvardiol is one of many Manchester City players whose futures are under scrutiny following the departure of Pep Guardiola.
The Croatian international has been a great servant for the club since joining them three years ago and is regarded as one of the most talented and versatile defenders in the Premier League.
Gvardiol’s progression has not gone unnoticed, with Real Madrid emerging as a potential suitor this summer while the player himself is reportedly drawn to the idea of working with Jose Mourinho.

However, Manchester City remain confident of extending the contract of Gvardiol this summer, as they look to fend off other clubs.
According to Fabrizio Romano, Man City are hopeful of getting the green light from Gvardiol himself over a new deal that could effectively seal his medium-term future at the club.
The Croatian international’s current deal at the Etihad expires in 2028. At 24, he has a lot of years ahead of him and could prove to be a long-term prospect for the club.

That is precisely why this is a massive missed opportunity for Real Madrid, as Gvardiol could have been an excellent addition to the team.
The former RB Leipzig could have added more competition to Eder Militao, Dean Huijsen and Antonio Rudiger next season while also covering for the left-back position, if required.
However, it seems he could possibly renew his contract at Man City. As for Real Madrid, they are expected to bring in Ibrahima Konate, the Liverpool defender who becomes a free agent this summer.
On top of Konate, Real Madrid are expected to sign at least one more centre-back as part of Mourinho’s big squad overhaul.
