Manchester City are currently without several attacking players. Oscar Bobb and Jeremy Doku are currently ruled out due to injury. Omar Marmoush is away on international duty with Egypt at the African Cup of Nations. Manchester City’s attacking options do look a little thin with that trio currently unavailable. One player who could be forced to play a bigger role for Pep Guardiola’s side is young attacking midfielder Divine Mukasa. Mukasa made his Premier League debut for City in their 3-nil win over West Ham on Saturday. He also showed that he could be ready for a bigger role off the bench if required.

It was a special moment for Divine Mukasa on Saturday as he came on for the final 15 minutes of Manchester City’s win over West Ham. Once on the pitch, Mukasa showed that he wasn’t out of place playing in the Premier League. Yes, West Ham were beaten by the time that Mukasa came on. But Mukasa showed his class with some nice touches and he knew where to be to play in Manchester City’s system. The fact that Mukasa has trained regularly with the City first-team aided him in this regard. As did the three starts that Mukasa has made in the Carabao Cup this season.
Divine Mukasa should have picked up his first Premier League assist during the latter stages of Manchester City’s win over West Ham. He played a quality through ball to Erling Haaland that the Norwegian international put inches wide. That pass was a glimpse of the prodigious talent that Mukasa has.
I’m not suggesting that Divine Mukasa is ready to become a regular starter at Manchester City. He isn’t yet ready for that at this stage of his development. But with Oscar Bobb, Omar Marmoush and Jeremy Doku unavailable, perhaps he can come off the bench to contribute in Manchester City’s upcoming matches. Mukasa’s playmaking ability could help his team unlock a packed defence. He could also help Pep Guardiola’s side keep possession based on the fact that he has been such a prominent player in Manchester City’s academy. Whether or not that occurs remains to be seen. But you do sense that Mukasa is ready to perform if called upon.
Divine Mukasa made his Premier League debut against his former club in West Ham on Saturday. He didn’t look out of place and that is a testament to Mukasa’s talent and application. It wouldn’t surprise me to see Mukasa come off the bench if required in Manchester City’s upcoming matches. He could make an impact and although he is only 18 years of age he has all of the tools required to contribute for Pep Guardiola’s side.
