With the first part of the summer transfer window now officially open until the 10th of June, Manchester City are busy attempting to bring players in ahead of the FIFA Club World Cup. City chairman Khaldoon Al-Mubarak has stated that his club’s goal was to bring in the majority of their new signings ahead of the upcoming tournament in the United States.
Now a new report from Fabrizio Romano for GIVEMESPORT that Manchester City are progressing with their moves to sign AC Milan midfielder Tijjani Reijnders and Lyon playmaker Rayan Cherki. It would seem that City are on the verge of landing two significant blows in the transfer market based on Fabrizio Romano’s update.
Fabrizio Romano has reported that Manchester City are making progress in their bid to sign Rayan Cherki from Lyon. Romano reports that Pep Guardiola has been in contact with Cherki in recent days. The purpose of these talks was to make sure the City manager and Cherki were aligned on their future goals as per Romano’s report. Furthermore, Romano reports that the transfer fee that will likely see Cherki arrive at the Etihad will be above €30 million. Lastly, Romano adds that talks between the two clubs are advancing.
It is also reported by Fabrizio Romano that Manchester City’s opening bid of €60 million for Tijjani Reijnders was rejected by AC Milan. Furthermore, Romano adds that talks between the two clubs are continuing. Manchester City are prepared to return with an improved offer for Reijnders as per Romano’s report. Lastly, Romano reports that the expectation is that a deal will be agreed upon between Manchester City and AC Milan.
It would seem that Manchester City are edging closer to their first signings of the summer. As mentioned above, it would be ideal if City could sign Cherki and Reijnders ahead of the Club World Cup. That would allow City to take both players to the United States. It would also give a fresh look to Pep Guardiola’s squad for the upcoming tournament. But more important than that, City appear to be on the verge of signing two quality players.
Manchester City’s rebuild is well and truly underway. They now need to add the pieces that would complement their January signings and the remainder of Pep Guardiola’s squad. Rayan Cherki and Tijjani Reijnders would do just that. Cherki would add the game-breaking creativity that Manchester City’s play lacked on occasions during the 24/25 season. Reijnders would add quality, life and goals to City’s midfield. Both players look to have defined roles in Manchester City’s rebuild. The quicker City can sign both players, the quicker they can grow into those roles.
Manchester City appear poised to land two significant blows in the transfer market this week. Signing Rayan Cherki and Tijjani Reijnders would represent exactly that. All indications are that it is only a matter of time before both players are pictured holding up a Manchester City shirt.
