The Football Association confirmed the news via a post on their official FA Spokesperson X account this afternoon.
Casparij is believed to have made an offensive gesture towards the visiting Manchester United supporters in the first half of last month’s clash at The Etihad Stadium. Video footage has now been reviewed and the player has been served with a one-match ban. Casparij must also pay a £1,634.61 fine as part of her punishment. She has accepted the consequences of her actions and will therefore be suspended for Manchester City’s next Barclays Women’s Super League fixture.
Following a review of the incident, an FA statement read: “Manchester City Women’s Kerstin Casparij has been suspended for one match and fined £1,634.61 following their Women’s Super League game against Manchester United Women on Saturday 23 March.
“Kerstin Casparij admitted that her conduct during the 37th minute was offensive, insulting and abusive. An independent Regulatory Commission imposed the sanctions following a hearing.”
Manchester City completed a league double over neighbours Manchester United with a victory at The Etihad Stadium. The Cityzens won the match 3-1 thanks to a Jess Park brace and a Khadija Shaw goal.
