Manchester City defender Naomi Layzell has undergone surgery on a hip injury.

The Cityzens confirmed the news via a post on their official club website this afternoon.

The 21-year-old centre-back sustained the injury whilst on international duty with England Under-23s back in October. She has been absent from the Manchester City matchday squad ever since.

It has now been reported that the player has gone under the surgeon’s knife and she will immediately begin the rehabilitation process with a view of returning to competitive action in early 2026.

Layzell joined Manchester City from former club Bristol City in summer 2024. The youngster gained some vital first team playing experience with The Cityzens last term and she has remained an important member of the squad under new boss Andrée Jeglertz this season. Manchester City have not put an exact timeframe on Layzell’s return but she will be keen to push for further minutes when she does regain fitness following her injury.

Manchester City complete the calendar year with a Subway Women’s League Cup quarter-final tie against West Ham United at The Chigwell Construction Stadium on Sunday afternoon. The Cityzens will be keen to advance and take another step towards ending their four-year trophy drought.
