Manchester City defender Jade Rose admits that she is excited to experience the European football culture playing in the Barclays Women’s Super League.

The 22-year-old joined The Cityzens from Harvard University earlier this summer. She was the club’s first addition of the close season.

The 2025/2026 campaign will be Rose’s first season, not only in England and the Barclays Women’s Super League, but also at a professional level. She is excited to play her football in Europe for the very first time and is looking forward to experiencing a very different football culture.

“I think that the WSL is a very unique league and offers something that not many other leagues offer,” Rose said when speaking to WSL Full-Time. “When you look at the calibre of play, the quality of the teams that you play, there’s not a single game that I can really think of in which you can take your foot off the gas.
I think that demands a certain level of excellence.

“
I am a very physical and athletic player and I think that the tactical and technical side [of my game] is something that I want to grow. I think that’s something that this league offers.

“Also, I think the football culture is something unique to Europe that you don’t necessarily see in other leagues and I’m really excited to get to experience that.”

Going on to discuss her aims and ambitions further, the Canadian international said that she wants to cement her starting place in the team.

She said “I think for me personally, it’s just to solidify myself within this team, to fight for a starting position is something that I’m striving for. I want to ensure that I get consistent quality minutes throughout the season. I think that it’s definitely a tall ask, but I know that as long as I keep my head down and keep working, that it’s something that I can get done.”

Commenting on the season ahead, Rose admitted that she is ready to embrace every minute of playing for Manchester City and wearing the sky blue shirt.

She said “It’s really hard to pinpoint one thing [that I’m excited about], I’m super-excited for all of it.
I’m excited to experience every moment and to just be there in the moment.

“I think it’s really easy to get ahead of ourselves and to just look at the next game and the next competition, but to just be there and embrace every single moment and every single thing that being a footballer has to offer is something that I’m looking forward to.”

Manchester City kick-off the new Barclays Women’s Super League season with a fixture at Chelsea on Friday 5 September 2025.
