Pep Guardiola and Manchester City saw a significantly limited list of players show for training in front of the media on Tuesday ahead of a big week for the club in Europe.
The reigning Premier League champions head to the French capital as they look to strengthen their pursuit of a last-16 place in the UEFA Champions League, having fallen to 22nd position in the league table after two defeats and a draw in their last three matches.
Form has managed to pick up in domestic competition, with Manchester City unbeaten since Boxing Day and having recorded impressive victories over the likes of West Ham United, Ipswich Town away from home, and Salford City in the FA Cup third round.
As for the UEFA Champions League, it has been a run of poor form with a 4-1 defeat away to Sporting CP followed by a calamitous showing at home to Feyenoord in a 3-3 draw, before losing 2-0 away to Juventus.
Manchester City will certainly be requiring the very best of their players to get them through to the next round of Europe’s premier club competition, and an element of uncertainty shrouds the squad roster in the run-up to their short flight to Paris on Tuesday evening.
That follows the open training session in front of the media at the club’s City Football Academy training centre on Tuesday morning, with just a 15-man contingent spotted in the first 15 minutes of the session in front of broadcast media.
Goalkeepers: Ederson, Stefan Ortega Moreno, Scott Carson.
Defenders: Abdukodir Khusanov, Vitor Reis.
Midfielders: Ilkay Gundogan, Mateo Kovacic, Jacob Wright, Kevin De Bruyne, Bernardo Silva, Phil Foden.
Forwards: Jack Grealish, Savinho, Divin Mubama, Erling Haaland.
There is a high chance that the rest of the squad trained elsewhere within the City Football Academy facilities, although in the event of fitness or illness issues Pep Guardiola will bring the media up to speed during his pre-match press conference on Tuesday evening.
For now, the full list of players absent from open training on Tuesday were as follows:
John Stones, Nathan Ake and Rodri are the only known injury problems at present, while Manuel Akanji has faced issues with his own fitness in recent weeks and it remains to be seen whether he has sustained any fresh problems.
Kyle Walker is understood to be closing in on a loan move to AC Milan for the remainder of the ongoing season, and there is a belief in various quarters that the 34-year-old has travelled to Italy on Tuesday.
As for the remainder of the players missing from the open section of training, Manchester City are due to release their full travelling squad list for the trip to Paris later on Tuesday afternoon.
