Manchester City are frontrunners to sign Feyenoord star Givairo Read this summer amid competition from Bayern Munich, as per a recent report.
City and Bayern Munich have been heavily linked with the 19-year-old for a while now, with Feyenoord head coach Robin van Persie backing Read to join an elite European club this summer.
In November 2025, both sides sent officials to watch the right-back in action. Read joined Feyenoord on a free transfer in July 2023 and has since made over 50 appearances for the Dutch side, netting five goals and providing 11 assists.

It appears Read’s impressive displays in Eredivisie have made him a serious candidate for Manchester City and their plans to strengthen their backline for the upcoming campaign.
While both clubs have been keen on signing Read, Manchester City are in ‘pole position’ to acquire his signature this summer, as reported by Dutch publication 1908.nl and relayed by Sport Witness.
The report suggests that City consider themselves to be in ‘vulnerable position’ with respect to the availability of a right-back in their squad.
Pep Guardiola leaned on Matheus Nunes in the position in recent seasons, with the likes of Rico Lewis, John Stones and Manuel Akanji often providing cover after Kyle Walker‘s departure in January 2025.
Guardiola has recently departed City and with a new season approaching, the Blues require a strong reinforcement at right-back, explaining their interest in Read.
Bayern Munich, meanwhile, have taken a step back in their pursuit of the defender, as the Bundesliga side are currently focused on ironing out a new contract for Konrad Laimer, according to a report by Christian Falk for CF Bayern Insider.

Despite previous hurdles in negotiations between the Austrian and the Bavarians over the contract extension, the parties are in talks again.
Falk’s report mentioned that if Laimer signs a new contract at the Allianz Arena, the German club would not consider bringing on Read, giving Manchester City a significant advantage.
Bayern are expected to push for retaining Laimer over signing Read as it allows them to focus on bolstering other areas of Vincent Kompany’s squad ahead of the upcoming campaign, while also avoiding an intense transfer battle with City.
According to the report by 1908.nl, Feyenoord are open to the possible departure of Read this summer, however, in exchange for a club-record fee.
The Rotterdam-based club’s current record transfer fee is €35 million, which they received for Igor Paixao‘s move to Ligue 1 side Olympique de Marseille last summer.
Read will turn 20 on 2 June 2026 and has three more years left on his contract at Feyenoord. He has been valued at €25 million by Transfermarkt.
