Manchester City has never hidden its admiration for Vincent Kompany, but now the idea takes on an entirely new dimension: the club now sees its former captain as the natural successor to Pep Guardiola more than ever before. Despite his recent contract extension with Bayern Munich, where he is tied until 2027, the Belgian remains the top name circulating in the corridors of the Etihad Stadium whenever the post-Guardiola era is mentioned. And for good reason: Kompany still embodies the spirit of City—a true leader who played 360 matches and lifted four Premier League trophies in the sky-blue shirt.

Kompany, the ideal heir to turn the Guardiola page

While Guardiola's contract theoretically runs until mid-2027, plenty of rumors suggest he could leave the club as early as the end of this season. Manchester City is taking this scenario seriously, already preparing for the transition. In the club's upper management, Kompany's profile ticks all the boxes: a deep attachment to the institution, a playing philosophy similar to Guardiola's, total respect in the dressing room, and a massive presence among the supporters.

Meanwhile, the Belgian tactician is making waves at Bayern Munich, enjoying an impressive start to the season. His team has won all its Champions League matches and conceded only one draw in the Bundesliga, against Union Berlin. These results only further cement his reputation.

Even though he hasn't made any public statements about his future, Kompany knows he remains "a very seriously considered option" on Manchester's side. The prospect of a triumphant return to City has never seemed more realistic.
