With the signing of James Trafford complete, it would appear that Manchester City is covered for goalkeepers. Ederson and James Trafford look set to battle it out for the number-one keeper position. Stefan Ortega will likely leave City before the transfer window closes. But now two new reports indicate that Manchester City is moving to sign Gianluigi Donnarumma from PSG, potentially. A move that seemed to be a non-starter may suddenly be a possibility.
Fabrice Hawkins has reported that Manchester City are monitoring the situation surrounding Gianluigi Donnarumma. Furthermore, Hawkins reports that City could move for the PSG keeper if Ederson leaves the club. Lastly, Hawkins reports that Donnarumma is interested in a move to Manchester City.
Following on from Fabrice Hawkins’ report, Fabrizio Romano reports that Manchester City have contacted PSG over a potential deal for Gianluigi Donnarumma. Furthermore, Romano reports that PSG are demanding around €50 million to sell the Italian international. Lastly, Romano reports that City will only move for Donnarumma if Ederson departs.
On that front, Fabrizio Romano has also reported that Galatasaray have made a direct approach to City to sign Ederson. Furthermore, Romano reports that Ederson is Galatasaray’s top target to fill the goalkeeper position. Lastly, Romano reports that talks are ongoing between the two clubs over a potential move to Turkey for Ederson.
Once Manchester City signed James Trafford, there appeared little chance they’d move for Gianluigi Donnarumma. It wasn’t a move that made sense, especially if Ederson decided to stay at City for next season. But that is the variable in the equation. If Ederson wants to move to Galatasaray and they are prepared to pay Manchester City’s asking price to sell the Brazilian international, the entire equation changes.
Perhaps everything from here hinges on Ederson’s decision. If he wants to move to Turkey, then City will make their move for Donnarumma. City may not want to enter next season with James and Stefan Ortega as their keepers if Ederson leaves. That is another factor to consider.
There is one more factor that cannot be glossed over. Perhaps City feel that the opportunity to sign Gianluigi Donnarumma is too good to pass up. Especially if Ederson departs. Donnarumma is one of the world’s best goalkeepers and it is seemingly only a matter of time before he leaves PSG. That’s another factor to consider.
Manchester City’s reported interest in Gianluigi Donnarumma all hinges on what Ederson wants to do. If he stays at City, that move won’t happen. But if he leaves anything is possible.
