Following a relatively long, drawn-out saga involving Manchester City and Bruno Guimaraes, a fresh concrete update has issued a negative trend when it comes to hopes of signing the Brazilian.

Manchester City infamously turned down the opportunity to sign the 26-year-old for £100 million via his release clause last summer, and now one of Guimaraes’ teammates at Newcastle United has issued an update on where the midfielder stands on his own future.

There has been plenty of developments on the outgoings front, as Oscar Bobb offered an update on his own future amid links to Chelsea, whilst there was total clarification from Pep Guardiola on the chances of Kevin De Bruyne remaining at the club.

Speaking of the Belgium, Tuesday also brought about updates on Manchester City’s hopes of signing the the 33-year-old to a new contract, with his existing deal currently set to expire at the end of the upcoming season.

As we strike day 40 of the ongoing summer transfer window, here is everything you need to know to stay up to date with the latest surrounding Manchester City and their market activities!

Arrivals

Pep Guardiola on whether he would be happy going into the 2024/25 season with the same squad: “Yeah… I love them, I like them, they proved for many years how good they are. I don’t know what’s going to happen in the market, but the squad is long enough…”

“If someone leaves, we’re going to talk about that. Of course, until the last day, we have chances [to change the squad], I don’t rule it out the option to have new players but if anyone leaves, I think 85/90/95% we will have the same squad…”

“I feel comfortable, because the quality of human beings we have in the squad is difficult to be replaced, and the quality is there. But we’ll see, I don’t know in the last moment if someone comes for some players and they leave, we’re going to decide…” (Press conference)

There is uncertainty around Kyle Walker’s future, and Manchester City would step up interest in Bayer Leverkusen’s Jeremie Frimpong if he leaves. But the expectation is that few, if any, players will depart this summer. (Sam Lee, The Athletic)

Pep Guardiola: “To bring one or two new players to bring something fresh is necessary. It’s not necessary to put seven, eight players. You cannot, with financial issues, change six, seven players. It’s unsustainable, it’s impossible. We have to be smart…”

“Many players want to come here, but we didn’t get an agreement with clubs because they ask for a so, so high price. I have a long, long list. I think we have a more longer list of players that we failed to bring here, than players that we brought here…” (Press conference)

Joelinton on Manchester City target, Bruno Guimaraes: “I hope he stays. I know him, he loves the club as well. He loves the fans, he enjoys his life in Newcastle United. He’s glad to be there for his life as well as football. Newcastle and the club want him to be happy and stay for many years… I think he’s going to stay [at Newcastle]. He tells me he’s going to come back next week and get ready for the season…” (Mirror)

Departures

Oscar Bobb: “I enjoyed last season a lot, but this season I want to play more, play a bigger part… Playing for this manager [Pep Guardiola] has always been a dream and if I have to wait a bit longer to eventually get more playing time, then I don’t mind… There’s been times where I thought it might be very hard [to break into the first-team], but as soon as I got the smallest opportunity, I thought there’s no other options really…” (Press conference)

Ederson is keen to move to Saudi Arabia and would join another club after Al Nassr, with Al Ittihad now on the scene, but Manchester City expect their asking price of around £50 million to be too high. (Sam Lee, The Athletic)

Pep Guardiola says he wants to keep James McAtee in his squad next season. Pep: “I am curious to see [James] Macca especially. He’s a player I have a high, high opinion of him, and I would like if he can insert properly with the team…”

“I would love to have, to keep him next season, because he’s a special guy to play in small spaces, in the pockets, and we don’t have many… When you play in the Premier League in a team fighting to not be relegated, you get something special…” (Press conference)

Manchester City want a fee starting at around €70 million for Julian Alvarez this summer, with another €20 million in add-ons. (Sam Lee, The Athletic)

Pep Guardiola: “No, Kevin [De Bruyne] isn’t leaving…” (Press conference)

Manchester City have made the decision to allow Kayky to leave the club on loan for next season, with Sparta Rotterdam and Shakhtar Donetsk being the two most interested clubs. (Fabrizio Romano, X)

Athletico-PR are trying to sign Kayky on loan from Manchester City, making initial contact and using Fernandinho as a ‘bridge’ for a deal. However, a return to Brazil is unlikely with the priority being a loan in Europe. All possibilities of a transfer for Kayky this summer are on loan, as City are asking for €10 million to sell permanently. (Rômulo Giacomin, PL Brasil)

Sean Dyche is keen to sign Kalvin Phillips, although Everton are only likely to be able to finance a loan deal for the Manchester City midfielder. Fulham are also monitoring the 28-year-old as a potential replacement for Joao Palhinha. (Alex Crook, talkSPORT)

Contract Renewals

Manchester City will hold talks with Kevin De Bruyne to discuss his future plans when the Belgian returns to Manchester next month. (Jack Gaughan, MailSport)
