Manchester City knock back second Rodri offer from Barcelona

Barcelona are determined to finalise a deal for Rodri as soon as possible, but Manchester City are not making it easy. Although an agreement on personal terms is already in place, there is yet to be a club-to-club breakthrough, much to the frustration of those within Can Barca.

Over the weekend, Barcelona tabled their opening offer after receiving the green light from Rodri, but it was rejected by Man City. Not to be denied, they went back in a couple of days ago with a new proposal, valued at €60m plus add-ons, but despite the 30-year-old being in the final 12 months of his contract, the bid has not been enough for the Premier League giants to budge.

As per The Times (via Sport), Man City have turned down Barcelona’s latest offer. €70m was the fee that was on the table, but the Cityzens have made it clear that they will only give the green light if they receive a proposal in the region of €80m.

Barcelona still at the table for Rodri

While this would be a very lucrative amount for a player in the final year of his contract, Barcelona are not ready to walk away at this stage. There is still a lot of confidence that an agreement will eventually be reached with Man City, although in order for it to happen, they must pay more than they had anticipated.

For Barcelona, it is a race against time to ensure that Rodri does not return to Man City after his extended summer break following his exploits at the 2026 World Cup. He’s due back in Manchester in the next 24 hours, but both he and the Catalan club want to ensure that he heads straight to the Spotify Camp Nou, thus ensuring that nothing gets in the way of a proposal deal.
