Manchester City have a chance to sign Borussia Dortmund striker Serhou Guirassy in the summer transfer window, as per a new report.
Erling Haaland has shouldered an overwhelming majority of the goalscoring burden for Pep Guardiola’s side in a season where City have looked visibly bleak down the middle in the absence of the 24-year-old Norwegian.
Julian Alvarez left for Atletico Madrid last summer in what was a club-record sale and there is money to spend to bolster City’s frontline in the upcoming transfer window, where incoming sporting director Hugo Viana is expected to heavily back Guardiola.
City lost the FA Cup final to Crystal Palace on Saturday in a further blow to what has been a very sub-standard season for the 2023 treble winners by all accounts, with the Blues failing to mount a challenge for the Premier League title whilst crashing out of the UEFA Champions League at the Round of 16 stage to Real Madrid.
Florian Wirtz was Manchester City’s leading target ahead of the 2025-26 campaign as Guardiola hunted an ideal successor for Kevin De Bruyne, who will play his final home game in a sky blue jersey against Bournemouth on Tuesday ahead of his imminent exit.
However, Wirtz is understood to have chosen Bayern Munich as his preferred destination and Manchester City will now look elsewhere to strengthen their attacking prospects whilst negotiations continue for Nottingham Forest’s Morgan Gibbs-White and AC Milan’s Tijjani Reijnders.
As per a new report by Bild, whose information has been relayed by Sport Witness, Manchester City are amongst a list of seven clubs in Europe who can activate Serhou Guirassy’s €70 million release clause at Borussia Dortmund in the summer.
Guirassy has been on fire in his debut season in Dortmund and despite racking up over 30 goals for his new side, whom he joined in 2024 from VfB Stuttgart, there is belief in Germany that he could be set for another move at the end of the season.
The report mentions that only Manchester City, Arsenal, Liverpool, Chelsea, Manchester United, Real Madrid and Barcelona can activate the 29-year-old Frenchman’s release clause, with the striker’s current deal at Dortmund running till 2028.
It remains to be seen whether City want to add a natural goalscorer to their ranks in the summer or if they target a deeper attacking player capable of supporting Haaland and operating in the number eight and 10 positions – to go full throttle next season and compete on all fronts.
