Earlier today, reports emerged claiming that FC Barcelona presidential candidate Victor Font is trying to secure a preferential purchase option with Manchester City for the potential future signing of Erling Haaland.

The Norwegian international has long been a target for the Blaugrana. And while an immediate move seems unlikely, given his contract at Etihad runs until 2034, Font & co. are understood to be trying to secure a future first preference buy option for the striker.

This comes after Font’s partners, Carles Planchart and Xavi Aguilar, held a meeting with Man City director Hugo Viana and CEO Ferran Soriano in Madrid on Wednesday.

Haaland’s agent breaks silence

Now, speaking to El Chiringuito, Haaland’s agent, Rafaela Pimenta, has denied that any candidate in the Barcelona presidential race has made a move to inquire about the Manchester City forward.

“I have often said that we have a lot of respect and admiration for FC Barcelona, but there has been no contact with Haaland or his manager with FC Barcelona or any of their candidates for a transfer,” said Pimenta.

Going a step further, she dismissed the possibility of Haaland leaving Manchester City in the near future, saying:

“The player renewed his contract a few months ago. He is very happy at Manchester City, he is doing very well and we really have nothing to discuss about a transfer when everything is going so well for him at Manchester City.”

What has Victor Font said?

It must be noted that, earlier today, Victor Font himself expressed scepticism about the possibility of signing Haaland this summer, even if he were to win the Barcelona presidential elections.

“Haaland is one of the best centre forwards in the world, without a doubt. In the short term, he is not available for signing because he renewed a very long-term contract last year,” Font acknowledged.

“But personally, I am convinced that these 10-year contracts are rarely fulfilled. Anything is possible, and we have to be prepared for a player of this talent, who has said he likes Spain and declared last year that he loves Camp Nou, to make a move.”
