Manchester City have asked Crystal Palace about a deal for Adam Wharton, but were told the midfielder is not for sale this summer.

The 22-year-old is one of several names on City’s list, and Palace have no plans to sell before the 1 September deadline. The Athletic reports that Newcastle United are in talks to sign Nico Gonzalez.

City’s midfield is being reshaped after the departures of Rodri, Bernardo Silva and Tijjani Reijnders.

They have signed Elliott Anderson from Nottingham Forest for £116 million and also hold interest in Chelsea midfielder Enzo Fernandez.

Wharton joined Palace from Blackburn Rovers in the winter window of 2024 in a deal worth £22 million. His contract at Selhurst Park runs to 2029.

Last season he made 53 appearances in all competitions for Palace, scoring once and supplying seven assists. The club finished 15th in the Premier League and won the Conference League.

He has 96 appearances for Palace and was in the side that delivered the club’s first major trophy with their FA Cup triumph in 2025.

Wharton has been capped four times by England since his 2024 senior debut, but was not selected in Thomas Tuchel’s 2026 World Cup squad.
