Manchester City reportedly decided against signing Benfica midfielder Florentino Luís this summer.
Luís enjoyed a breakthrough 2018/19 campaign for his boyhood club, making 39 appearances across all competitions.
According to A Bola, City wanted to sign the 20-year-old when his release clause was €50m, but looked elsewhere after he signed a contract extension – increasing it to €120m.
They later found value in targeting Atlético Madrid star Rodri who had a €70m release clause and more experience.
Luís was also determined to prove himself at Benfica before joining a Champions League side later on.
