Manchester City and Chelsea FC have reached a Deadline Day €140m agreement to sign Argentina international midfielder Enzo Fernández (25), according to L’Equipe. The former SL Benfica midfielder informed Chelsea of his desire to leave the Blues, who haven’t qualified for any European competition this season. Fernandez was expected to reunite with former Chelsea FC head coach Enzo Maresca, now in charge at Premier League rivals Manchester City FC.
The outlet adds that City and Chelsea reached a verbal agreement this Tuesday over a €140m transfer fee, without taking into account add-ons. Fernández is the third big-money midfield signing from City this summer. The Cityzens have already broken the €100m barrier in previous deals for Elliott Anderson and Ayyoub Bouaddi. The 2022 World Cup winner could make his Manchester City debut on Saturday against Frank Lampard’s Coventry City.
