Manchester City have reportedly made their move to sign Dani Olmo based on a new report. But another report suggests that the champions are not working on a deal for one of the stars of this summer’s European Championships. It continues the trend of conflicting reports on City’s interest in signing the RB Leipzig playmaker.

Firstly, Pete O’Rourke has reported for footballinsider247.com that the champions are closing in on a deal for Dani Olmo. O’Rourke reports that Manchester City have been in talks about activating Olmo’s release clause. Furthermore, O’Rourke adds that a deal between City and RB Leipzig is increasingly likely if the two clubs can agree on a payment structure for the deal.

But to counter that report Fabrizio Romano has reported via X that Manchester City sources have confirmed that they are not working on a deal for Olmo. Journalist Ben Jacobs has also reported similar via his official X account. Based on the conflicting reports what happens next is anyone’s guess in regards to a future City move for Dani Olmo.

A definitive answer on any City move for Dani Olmo should become apparent in the coming days.

Today’s latest reports follow the recent trend of conflicting reports regarding City’s interest in Dani Olmo. Given City’s previous interest in the Spanish international it would make sense if they do move for Olmo. Based on his exploits for Spain this summer the reported €60 million (as per O’Rourke’s report) release clause represents good value for a player of Olmo’s quality. But whether or not there is space in City’s squad for Olmo does appear to be the question.

It is well known that Pep Guardiola prefers to work with a smaller squad. Adding another player who would command minutes could upset the balance of the Manchester City squad. But with more games on the schedule for City next season, they may need extra reinforcements to cater for a hectic fixture list. If that is deemed the case by the City hierarchy then a move for Olmo seems possible as per O’Rourke’s report. But if they don’t want to upset the balance of the squad then Romano and Jacobs reports will hit the mark.

What happens with City’s interest in Olmo is a story to watch for. There is a case both for and against City moving for Olmo. Which report proves to be correct should become apparent in the coming days.
