Manchester City are long-term admirers of Maghnes Akliouche (23), however, it was thought that the signing of Rayan Cherki from Olympique Lyonnais last summer had ended that interest. But L’Équipe now reports that that may not be the case.
Whilst Akliouche is currently in a period of less productive form, he has nonetheless become a France international this season, and he currently has five caps to his name, as well as one goal. It comes after a summer that defied expectations. There was interest from across Europe in the Monaco academy product (Manchester City, Tottenham Hotspur, Bayer Leverkusen, Paris Saint-Germain…), but ultimately, the Principality club’s €70m valuation put clubs off, and so he remained on the Côte d’Azur.
However, there remains interest in Akliouche, who in 19 games in all competitions this season has three goals and four assists. L’Équipe understands that Manchester City could still sign the French playmaker.
